Traktor gets derby revenge
Traktor Chelyabinsk 2 Metallurg Magnitogorsk 1 (1-0, 1-1, 0-0)
The second edition of the Ural derby between Traktor and Metallurg produced a mirror image of the first. Four days after the teams met in Magnitogorsk, Traktor avenged its 1-2 reverse with a victory by the same margin.
The host broke the deadlock on a power play late in the first period. Maxim Yakutsenya fired in the shot, Kirill Koltsov applied the finishing touch.
Magnitka tried to raise the tempo, but found Traktor in an unyielding mood. Even after Sergei Mozyakin set up Matt Ellison for the equalizer on a delayed penalty call, the host was quick to regain the initiative. Once again, the goal came on the power play: Nick Bailen converted the opportunity.
Metallurg’s best chance of a tying goal in the third came early, but Igor Grigorenko was denied by Vasily Demchenko in a manner that recalled Hasak’s acrobatics on the crease. There would be no more scoring; Metallurg’s consolation prize came in yet another milestone for Mozyakin, who claimed his 400^th assist in Russian domestic hockey.


Loko back to winning ways
Lokomotiv Yaroslavl 3 Vityaz Podolsk 1 (1-0, 1-1, 1-0)
A much-changed Lokomotiv roster bounced back from Sunday’s overtime loss at home to Jokerit with victory over Vityaz.
The home team took control early on, opening the scoring in the second minute after Dmitry Lugin capitalized on a defensive error.
But Vityaz rallied and hit back at the start of the second when a counter-attack enabled Jaakko Risanen to score his first since joining the club. The Finn forced home the rebound after Alexander Sudnitsin saved his initial shot.
Loko regained the lead on the power play on 27 minutes when Max Talbot wrapped up a neat bit of tic-tac-toe involving Brandon Kozun and Staffan Kronwall. Kozun sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Lada ends Neftekhimik’s unbeaten run

Neftekhimik’s bright start to the season came to an abrupt halt as three goals in the last eight minutes shattered the team’s winning run.
When Roman Graborenko put Andrei Nazarov’s team in front midway through the second period, Neftekhimik was on course to move one point clear at the top of the KHL table as the only team with a 100% record through its first four games. But Lada had other ideas. Stanislav Bocharov tied the scores in the 53^rd minute – Denis Zernov, who scored twice in his previous outing, got the assist. Then Carter Ashton got his second goal for his new club to put Lada in front. Bocharov got his second point of the night when he helped Dmitry Vorobyov score in the empty net to wrap up the win.

Bryukvin impresses in Dynamo win
Dynamo Moscow 2 Jokerit Helsinki 1 SO (0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 0-0, 1-0)
Vladimir Bryukvin got his first goal of the season and then found the net in the shoot-out as Dynamo recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Bryukvin, 22, is one of several young players hoping to make a name for himself in a fresh-faced Blue-and-White roster, and he made a big impact in the 37^th minute when he collected Maxim Solovyov’s pass and ripped home a rising wrist shot from the left-hand face-off spot.
That wasn’t enough to win the game, though: Markko Antilla tied the scores midway through the final session. It took a shoot-out to decide the outcome, and Bryukvin scored for the host along with Artyom Podshendyalov. Jokerit failed on all four attempts as Dynamo took the win.
